In response to the consolidation plans being implemented within the Warren County School District (WCSD), the Tidioute Area Business Association (TABA) and its education committee Save Our School (SOS) organized a grass roots effort in 2003 to keep a K-12 school in Tidioute. The charter school planning group came to the task of creating a community based expeditionary learning school that utilizes the community and environment to offer a rich curriculum that is both rigorous and innovative. Opening in 2005, the Tidioute Community Charter School is a public K-12 charter school serving a maximum of 300 students. TCCS serves students from the Warren, Forest and Titusville School Districts. Our class sizes are small with a student/teacher ratio of 12:1. The founding members developed the Tidioute Community Charter School as a unique and progressive charter school with the belief that a school should provide a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment where education is valued; a school that provides a world class educational experience, characterized by rigorous curriculum, quality instruction, creativity and continuous achievement. A school that fosters a love for learning and gives each child the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for success. We are committed to: • Small class sizes to give our students invaluable individual attention. • A rigorous curriculum which utilizes local resources promoting project based expeditionary learning with a focus on the environment and community that gives the students the skills necessary to make wise decisions, which reflect healthful living, interdependence and ethical behavior that contributes to society. • Reading, reading and more reading to provide the foundation for lifelong learning. • Extensive, meaningful staff development to keep our teachers inspired and passionate about their important work. • A progressive volunteer program that includes families as partners to share in the responsibility of their children’s education. • The community as a classroom to widen the student’s world. • High standards to ensure that students reach for their personal best and experience confidence through their achievements. • Accountability to our students, parents, teachers and the community.
